Cardiovasculaire beeldvorming met Photon Counting CT

De technologische vooruitgang in de medische beeldvorming heeft geleid tot de introductie van Photon Counting CT (PCCT), een revolutionaire ontwikkeling op het gebied van cardiovasculaire diagnostiek. PCCT onderscheidt van de reguliere Energy Integrating Detector CT scanners zich door het vermogen om de energie van individuele röntgenfotonen te detecteren. Dit maakt dat spectrale beeldvorming mogelijk is met PCCT. Daarnaast heeft PCCT een veel kleinere detector elementen wat resulteert in superieure spatiele resolutie.

Tijdens deze presentatie worden de belangrijkste technische principes van Photon Counting CT besproken, evenals de klinische meerwaarde voor cardiovasculaire beeldvorming. Aan de hand van recente onderzoeksresultaten en praktijkvoorbeelden wordt ingegaan op de verbeterde detectie van coronairlijden, de mogelijkheden voor plaque karakterisatie en de andere cardiovasculaire toepassingen. Tot slot wordt vooruitgeblikt op toekomstige toepassingen en integratie van PCCT in de dagelijkse klinische praktijk. De presentatie biedt zo een actueel overzicht van de impact van Photon Counting CT op de diagnostiek en behandeling van cardiovasculaire aandoeningen.

Ricardo Budde

Prof.dr. Ricardo Budde is a full professor and radiologist specialized in cardiovascular radiology at Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Ricardo is a member of the Executive Board of the European Society of Cardiovascular Radiology (ESCR, www.escr.org). He is core author of the ESCR consensus document on TAVI. He is also Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) and served on the SCCT Guidelines committee.
His main research interests include imaging of (prosthetic) heart valves, aortic disease, endocarditis and Photon Counting CT imaging. The Dutch Heart Foundation has awarded him two large grants as PI including a prestigious Dekker grant.

He has (co)-authored over 295 peer-reviewed publications serves as daily supervisor for multiple PhD students. He serves on the editorial board of the journals “Radiology Cardiothoracic Imaging”, “European Journal of Hybrid Imaging” and “European Heart Journal- Digital Health”.
He has been instructor at many (inter)national CT and CMR hands-on workshops organized at ESCR, Netherlands Heart Days and meetings of the Dutch Society of Radiology.

For many years he organizes the Hands-on Cardiac CT course in Rotterdam. He is initiator and part of the organizing committee for the Erasmus Photon Counting CT meeting, which will be held in Rotterdam the Netherlands on 8 and 9 January 2026. More info to be found on www.epcct.com.
